Vietnam's logistics industry is entering a period of accelerated transformation, in which green logistics is considered one of the key "levers" to improve competitiveness and sustainable development. The Ministry of Industry and Trade is urgently completing and submitting to the Prime Minister the Draft Strategy for Logistics Services Development for the period 2025 - 2035, with a vision to 2050.

Development goals to 2030 and 2050
According to the draft strategy:
- By 2030:
- The proportion of logistics in GDP reached 6 – 8%.
- Logistics outsourcing rate: 60 – 70%.
- Logistics costs are reduced to 16 – 18% GDP.
- By 2050:
- Contribution to GDP reached 12 – 15%.
- Logistics outsourcing rate 70 – 90%.
- Logistics costs are only 10 – 12% GDP.
- LPI (Logistics Performance Index) global penetration Top 30.
This potential is further reinforced when Hai Phong Seaport has achieved an output of more than 7.1 million TEUs/year, ranking among the Top 50 largest container ports in the world, opening up opportunities to upgrade infrastructure and expand logistics scale.
Green logistics – an inevitable trend
The draft affirms:
- By 2030: logistics must develop towards reducing emissions and using green energy.
- By 2035: logistics plays a key role in bringing national net emissions to zero.
Many large logistics enterprises in Vietnam, such as Gemadept, have pioneered the implementation of digital transformation strategies - green logistics - smart infrastructure to improve operational efficiency and minimize environmental impact.

Sustainable logistics development solutions
The draft strategy focuses on five key directions:
- Perfecting institutions and laws, improving the investment environment.
- Investing in modern and synchronous logistics infrastructure.
- Developing the market, increasing competitiveness for businesses; promoting regional linkages - economic corridors.
- Promote digital transformation and green transformation, apply technology to service management and exploitation.
- Training high quality human resources, building professional logistics services.
Grandfather Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) commented:
“This strategy will help Vietnam's logistics service industry develop sustainably, with quality, increased value and enhanced regional and global competitiveness.”
Strengthening cooperation and infrastructure investment
To realize the goal, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will coordinate with ministries, branches and associations to:
- Raising public and business awareness of green logistics.
- Promote the formation of modern supply chains and increase value-added services.
- Attract investment in advanced, environmentally friendly technology, in sync with key infrastructure planning.
Grandfather Juergen Weber, Chairman of the Transport & Logistics Subcommittee (EuroCham), also emphasized:
“Vietnam needs to accelerate the development of logistics infrastructure, modernize technology and prioritize green solutions to participate more deeply in the global supply chain, optimize costs and increase competitiveness.”
